Welcome to ROM Specialized Training.
ROM is a special acronym to me.
First of all, R.O.M. are my initials. Raina Orielle Munson.
Secondly, I am a big believer of Range Of Motion and the ability to move through life as mobile as possible both physically and mentally.
ROM Specialized Training was established, because during my last 10 years as a trainer and coach, I realized that the best training I can give an individual is realistic, helpful and long term style training. I want everyone to not only have a fun and successful training experience, but achieve results no matter what their goals are. My progressive and individualized coaching sets the path for better performance in all areas of wellness. I wand you to live a more pain free lifestyle with more movement and energy and less stress and inflammation.
My main focus in coaching is for you to learn more about your body, help you realize what you are capable of (with a little help from me), and to teach you how to get back to the basics of a more simple lifestyle. I teach a whole food nutrition approach, stress the importance of decreasing waste, eating more sustainable by supporting local or growing it yourself, and how to set yourself up for more movement and less stress with daily lifestyle tasks and tools. By helping you create a simple system to increase overall wellness, you will not only be successful in your physical goals, but also in everyday life.
I grew up in Northern California spending a lot of time outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking, and going on road trips with family. We spent much of our time in nature and living a fun and simple, adventurous family life. Those experiences have shaped me into the person I am today, grateful and happy to spend time outdoors being active and exploring with those closest to me.
I played basketball and ran track in high school and knew I loved movement and fitness. I Went to Sac State where I pursued my Exercise Science degree, played intramural basketball (champs one year!) and played Club Rugby for 3 years (my last year I was awarded D2 All American winger!) I went right into Personal Training and Group Coaching after college. I worked at several local gyms and started coaching at a Women’s Gym, Kaia FIT, which is now a 50+ gym franchise, of which I am still the Head Workout Programmer. I have coached at numerous locations, helped run certifications, and presented at their Conference. The community of Kaia has been a part of my life empowering women and building everyone up around you.
I also was a Wellness Coordinator at SMUD, where I helped run an on-site Fitness Center for a company of 2,000+ employees. During my few years working here, I had the opportunity to work with higher risk and chronic pain issues of sitting at a desk and commuting daily. This is where I knew I wanted to help the everyday worker achieve better health and be at less risk of dysfunction and injury.
After a 7 year stint in Sacramento working 3+ Jobs, I decided to do some traveling! I went to Oahu for a month to help a friend launch her Kaia gym, spent 3 months in Europe, then headed to Mexico for a few weeks. I moved to Tucson at the end of that year with my now Husband. There I coached at 2 Crossfit Gyms and was an Exercise Specialist at a Physical Therapy office where I worked with the therapists for pre and post rehab training. It was the perfect place to learn more about lifting oriented programming and movement patterns, and anatomy and biomechanics all at the same time. I started offering mobility classes for the Crossfitters, and I started a youth programs to teach them about lifting, preventing injury and other performances techniques. This is where I found out about my love for the combo of the 2!
After 3 years in Tucson, my husband and I took a big trip to travel through several National Parks in Utah and Idaho and spent 2 months in South America. After a short stay in California, where I Coached and Managed Kaia FIT Petaluma, we moved to Portland, Oregon.
My husband and I currently live in NE, on a 1/3 acre with fruit trees, year round veggie garden, 6 chickens, and our fun and hilarious Rhodesian Ridgeback dog, Athena. We enjoy the simple things in life and exploring this new home of ours. I spend my free time working in the garden, going on outdoor adventures, and exploring all that the Pacific North West has to offer.
