Hello!

I’m Coach Raina O. Munson!

I grew up in Northern California spending a lot of time outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking, and going on road trips with family. We spent much of our time in nature and living a fun and simple, adventurous family life. Those experiences have shaped me into the person I am today, grateful and happy to spend time outdoors being active, exploring, adventuring and playing with those closest to me.

After playing sports in high school (Most Athletic 2005!) and wanting to learn how to tape my own ankles for basketball, I pursued my Exercise Science degree at Sacramento State and have been in the business since graduating in 2009. I started my personal training career in Sac at several local gyms, and coaching at a Women’s Fitness Group, Kaia FIT, which I am currently head of exercise and education programming. I also got to intern and work at a corporate wellness center for a company of 2000 employees. Being able to see the point of view of desk work and hard manual labor in this company opened my eyes to focusing on injury and how it occurs.

Next, living in Tucson with my soon to be husband, I coached at 2 Crossfit Gyms and was an Exercise Specialist at a Physical Therapy office. It was the perfect place to be involved the lifting and high rep community, blended with anatomy, biomechanics and exercise prescription in the physical therapy setting. I started offering mobility classes for the Crossfitters and youth, strength programs for the PT patients, and really started seeing the connection with preventative injury and performance technique. THIS is where I found out about my love for the combo of the 2 and have moved forward with my approach in Coaching.

Once I moved to Portland, Oregon, I quickly started working at a local gym and after 2 years decided I needed to do my own thing. I wanted clients to find me becuase of what I coach. No more Crossfit, no more Bootcamp, no more weight loss programs. I wanted to combine physical therapy, strength, mobility and lifestyle all in one! ROM Specialized Training was born in 2019!

Since living both in California and this lush PNW setting, I’ve gained a true passion of gardening, cooking, preserving and baking. I’ve realized that spending time in nature and allowing it to nourish me has been a main focus of mind in the realm of nutrition coaching. I focus on whole food, nourishing and performance boosting food. No diets, no fads, just real whole food that will give you the macronutrients and as many micronutrients as possible. Sill making sure to keep reality in check and live that 80:20 rule with no regrets or guilt.

I am a sucker for the simple things. Nature, family, friends, dogs (specifically mine, Athena the Ridgeback), good food, cooking, gardening, music, biking, hiking, sleeping and all forms of movement and connection.
